VARITEK

In my next life I am going to take life a little more serious between the ages of 14-21. I am going to go to finish school (I might still do that in this life time, don't hold your breath) and become a sports reporter. I for some crazy reason am obsessed with sports. I was telling my husband that it would be really great if I could put as much passion and enthusiasm into the scriptures as I do sports. We all have trials right? Anywhoo, I just needed somewhere to vent about my beloved Jason Varitek. I am so bugged by the Red Sox for not resigning him that it gives me serious anxiety. I have been reading all the reports on what the hold up is and I can't say that I blame the Red Sox for not giving a 36 year old guy (soon to be 37 in April) a 4 year deal. But good criminey who else is out there? AT the least, THE VERY LEAST he could help mold an up coming prospect in a couple of years. He has caught 4 no hitters in his career. His offensive numbers were down this year, but what he brings to the pitching staff makes up for his sluggish offense. His agent Scott Boras is a tool and I don't think he does much good for the game of baseball. I could go on all night. The good news is that there is less than a month left in the lame football season. My favorite day of the year is the day after the superbowl. This season was especially lame because my man Tom Brady was injured for the season. Let's be honest here, if I am going to watch football I better have something good to look at. That is why Tom is my man!! Good news though, next month pitchers and catcher report. The Austrailian open (tennis) is right around the corner. The Jazz are looking better everyday. Baseball season officially begins April 5th and then my beloved Red Sox can show the money hungry Teixeira why he made a bad choice. In other news, my kids are growing like weeds, so am I, the hunkalicious husband is amazing (that's what I tell him so he will do housework), and we are very blessed. I am so grateful for all of my sweet family and friends. What would be the point of a blog if it weren't for you?

Okay, nothing personal, but Varitek was *awful* this season. He was a huge hole in the lineup, and yes, he's a leader and a captain, but my goodness, he couldn't hit a ball off a tee. And I'm a Sox fan. :)

As far as football, I totally agree with you. I'm a Jazz junky, and then it rolls right into baseball season.

Hope things are going well, and enjoy your new catcher who can at least hit the ball occasionally.

WAIT JUST A SECOND!!! Football will always be better then baseball for many reasons. For example, Football=5 months vs. Baseball=9 months. Football=1 game/wk vs. Baseball=up to 6 games/wk. Football=3-3.5 hrs/game vs. Baseball=3.5+ hrs/game, do I need more??? Undoubtedly the best day of the year is the day after the World Series because then SPORTSCENTER can devote more time to FOOTBALL!!!!
If you would like to discuss this more, then just BRING IT!!!

You're so funny! You definitely should be a sports writer - you'd be great at it!! Looks like you and Mike got Shane a little bit bugged!! I like football and all, but baseball is still my fav!!

your buddy Shane makes no sense. Baseball is everything you want in a sport. How can you say a sport is better because there is less of it? Football is a brute sport so most neanderthals would prefer it, but those of us with passion and true love of competition will always want baseball. Equal opportunities, never ends in a tie, the ultimate dynamic of individual stats and team play, visitors go first, home team always last, head coach wears a uniform, and the championship isn't played on some random field-it's played in front of the fans for at least 4 games!
As for Varitek-you Boston fans are fools, The man is your captain for cryin out loud! Where is the loyalty? It's a tough sport and there are ups and downs, give him a break. He calls a game better than anyone else in the league. Remember when Lowell had a down year with the Marlins? Who else would you rather have? If Boston does want him, I would love to see him and his flat top in pinstipes. He was 15th among all catchers with 93 hits, 12th in homers, 7th in walks, 9th in games and innings, and he only had 4 passed balls and 4 errors! Don't forget he also can catch Wakefield. Where is your loyalty? You really want another catcher? Look at the market, who you gonna get? Maybe they can hit, but can they catch as good as him? What about team chemistry and all that? And this is coming from a Yankee fan. Why do I need to be your voice of reason? I hope he goes elsewhere and you can watch him win comeback player of the year. Oh and guess what Josh bard hit last year-.202 with 1 homer! Go YANKEES!!!
